Hip and Knee Revision Surgery

The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS) has conducted many studies in last few years on revision surgery. The reasoning for these studies is there has been a significant increase in the number of revisions being done in the United States. With pressure from the government and other surveillance groups the AAOS conducted these studies and found the following:

  • Experience made a huge difference in outcomes
  • Fellowship trained hip and knee surgeons have better outcomes
  • There are an increasing number of surgeons not trained in total joints that are increasingly doing more revisions resulting in poorer outcomes.

The Dallas Limb Restoration Center has also seen an increasing number of revision surgeries referred to us. Many failures in part do to a lack of experience and training in these complex surgeries. We have experience in over 12,000 joint replacement surgeries and regularly perform a high volume of complex joint reconstruction. Although joint failures occur with the best surgeons it makes sense to go to a surgeon with vast experience who does a high volume of these procedures.
